When Bad Weather Brings Bad Behavior

It was hailing today in my hometown! Hailing! Or maybe sleeting. Little pieces of ice hitting my window, anyway, yelling into my ear that winter is here before I'd even gotten a chance to bring my fall sweaters out of storage.

More unsettling than the unexpected shift of seasons, though, is the way that wild weather, drops in temperature, and changes in light and time brought about by yesterday's "fall behind" clock change can discombobulate a kid like my son, one whose behavioral grip depends on the safety of routine, routine, routine.

"Fall behind" may feel like exactly what your child does this time of year, but there are plenty of reasons for that, ranging from the oncoming holiday madness to harder schoolwork to the common cold. I've listed some of those behavioral trouble spots in a new article, "Fall Behind: When Changes in Time, Light, and Weather Bring Bad Behavior" -- could some of these be why your child is flipping out? (Or, maybe, why you are?)
