Forum Questions on Bipolar Disorder, Special-Ed Relocation

replyTwo new visitors to the Parenting Special Needs Forum are introducing themselves with questions that maybe you can answer. For erikabenny, the challenge is finding the right special-education setting in a new location:

"We have a six year old boy who has severe global delays, non verbal, just learning to take steps, GT fed and receives all the services. Attends kdg, in a school for disabilities. No diagnosis at this time. May have to relocate to San Francisco area and need some help to find the BEST school system and an affordable nice family neighborhood/city. I am looking for a school that he wouldn't have to be 'mainstreamed' into regular ed classes."

For mommyof.4, the challenge is not a new location but a new diagnosis -- pediatric bipolar disorder -- for her eight-year-old daughter:

"Medication has made a huge difference but each day is a trial for her. Some days all you have to do is look at her and the war is on. We have found that the family tends to walk on egg shells wondering how the day will go. I feel like I have neglected our other 3 children over the past year. This is all new to us and even with the therapy and counseling sometimes just doesn't feel like it is enough. So I would really like to find other parents or teachers or even caregivers that are also dealing with this to share ideas..tips..advice.... anything to help us get through each day."

If you can offer some assistance to these parents, please visit the forum and add your advice. And if you've got a problem, add your own question for your fellow parents to answer.
